UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
Conor Gannon returns home this weekend after a fruitful few weeks of training and competitive action.
He reached the Doubles Final of an ITF Tour event in Tunisia two weeks ago and is coming back to Ireland to play in next weekend's Davis Cup match against Syria in Limerick.
In recent weeks he has also joined a training camp in Bath University, which will help sharpen his game and prepare him for longer stints on the professional circuit.
Keep your eyes peeled for Conor around the club before he heads to Limerick for next week's Davis Cup action!
It was with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of the unique and legendary Gerry Clarke.
Gerry was a much loved and iconic figure of Irish tennis, - whose tennis career spanned eight decades and included many highlights - his victory at the World O/80's Championship being one!
I had the honour and privilege of partnering Gerry at the "joint 120 year" (the combined ages of the players had to be 120 or beyond!) event at the Carrickmines Open when he was 84 years old.
We won the tournament and became good friends thereafter.
Gerry made many impromptu visits to Monkstown tennis club, where he regaled various Juniors with many tales relating to his tennis exploits. He was also a font of knowledge and shared much of his wisdom with a group of youngsters who were always very receptive and entertained.
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
