SENIOR NEWS
Championship 2026
Entries are now open for the forthcoming club Senior Championships!
Following on from the hugely successful Handicaps it is our intention to run an equally enjoyable Championships tournament for everyone and hope that the sun continues to shine!
Championships matches will run from Friday 14th August to Saturday 29th August inclusive. Closing date for entries is Sunday 9th August.
Similar to our Middle Friday HUGO Spritz night during the Handicaps we are planning fun events for our Championships tournament. More details to follow in the coming days.
Our Annual ‘At Home’ Finals Prize giving evening event will be held this year in 'The Loft' at the Purty Kitchen, Dunlaoghaire on Saturday 29th August. Details to follow with booking information.

Ladies Senior League (O35s and O60s)
Ladies Senior League O35s is on its way commencing on Sunday 30th August 2026. This year we are again submitting eight teams, Class 1 to Class 6.
The Round Robin Matches will be played on Sundays 30/08, 06/09, 13/09, 20/09 and 27/09. Matches will be at 9am or 11am.

SUPERVISED TENNIS SUMMER SCHEDULE
Summer Supervision continues next week –
Tuesday to Friday 11-1, 2-4 (members only)
2 weeks left in the summer supervision as none on during the Junior Championships - Cost is €10 per week or part thereof.
Now open to book on Easy Payments.

MEN’S MORNING – Sunday Mornings
Men’s morning takes place at the usual time of 10am-12 this Sunday, courts 4 & 5, followed by a cuppa, of course - All standards welcome!
CLUB NIGHT
Club Night - Thursdays at 8pm. Open to all Senior members, all standards – everyone welcome.
Stephen will get things started with some games and coaching tips!

UPDATE FROM HEAD COACH STEPHEN
DLR Irish Open
What a week Conor Gannon is having at the DLR Irish Open Championships in Carrickmines.
In his 1st round match on Wednesday, he showed immense guts & determination to beat his Spanish opponent, Lorenzo Lorusso, 6/7 7/6 6/3.
He had the spectators on the edge of their seats as he saved a number of match points and produced some super tennis to seal the win.
Yesterday he faced the No 5 Seed, Dimitris Azoidis from Greece, and produced another display of high quality tennis to register another brilliant win.
An interesting spectator giving his Greek opponent lots of advice was none other than Stephanos Tsitsipas' (former world no.3!) dad - Conor was well up to the challenge.
He now plays the No 3 Seed, Matt Ponchet, from France in the 1/4 Final today – Conor is due on court at around 1pm today and members are encouraged to attend if they can.

Conor will be back on court later this afternoon/early evening for his Doubles semi final. It was great to see so many Monkstown members in the stands yesterday and let’s hope for more of the same this afternoon!

Conor was not alone in flying the Monkstown flag on the international stage in recent times…. Richie Kennedy represented Ireland at the Summer Cup in Germany last week. The Summer Cup is basically the European Junior Championships - Great achievement Richie!
Rushbrooke was the venue last week for the 95th Junior Tour 1250 Close Championships of Ireland 2026. A number of our Juniors travelled to Cork to compete and came away with some super results.
Rosie Kennedy won the U/18 singles & doubles titles and was runner up in the U/16 mixed.
Daniel Carney was just pipped in a close 3 setter in the Final of the U/12 singles.
Congrats Rosie and Daniel!
Clontarf is the venue this week with Rosie – Robyn – Luke – Sam – Sean – Harry & Elsa battling away… good luck all!
