AREK’S FAREWELL

Reminder that you are all invited to Arek’s Farewell on this Sunday 29th  March at 10 a.m.   where we are making a presentation to Arek on behalf of the Executive and Members to thank him for his great contributions to the club for almost 20 years.  Arek is returning to Poland to his family and while he will be badly missed by us all we wish him well,  respect his decision and thank him sincerely for all his hard work.

PROGRESS OF COURTS CONSTRUCTION WORKS

We are delighted to inform all members that the Courts Project is on schedule and within budget.  No unforeseen issues have arisen.

Emerald Sport will not be working this weekend so courts booked by members can go ahead as planned.

The Advantage Clay carpets will begin to be laid next week.

Thanks again to all for your patience and co-operation and as we said previously short term misery for long term happiness

Hopefully you are enjoying visiting some of our generous neighbouring clubs whose cooperation we much appreciate and if you are doing other things instead of instead of tennis

e.g. I know some are taking this opportunity to experience Padel and other sports do enjoy but we look forward to getting you all back to MLTC as soon as possible

Thanks again to the Courts Committee/Executive committee who continue to work tirelessly on this projects endless meetings and unseen work – thank you all very much.

Margaret Quinn

Club President

                                                                                     LADIES EVENTS

LADIES SUMMER LEAGUE

Along with the longer evenings, warmer weather and our fabulous new courts, the Ladies Summer League is on its way… commencing on 11th May 2026.

As noted in our opening newsletter, we are very much looking forward to a competitive year of tennis ahead for MLTC ladies! Over the past couple of seasons we have been challenged with injuries and unavailabilities and to this end, based on feedback from our league players, we have had a review of our approach to league team selection.

Some of the key items we are going to trial for Summer League 2026 are:

 1.     Players must be available for at least FOUR games to be named on a team.

2.     Doubles players to be given an option to sign up with a partner, conditions apply.

3.     Squads structure not to be used.

Without the use of squads, the availability of subs and effective allocation and forward planning will be increasingly important. Therefore we ask, if choosing to play as a sub, that you advise where possible the dates that you will be available to play.

Please find attached the sign up form for Summer League 2026. This has also been issued to our Junior players in advance to encourage them to sign up and we reiterate the importance of their involvement in Summer League.

Please complete the form by 9th April 2026.

 Teams will announced w/c 20th April 2026.

Any queries please contact Ladies Captain Noreen

UPDATE FROM HEAD COACH STEPHEN

Quiet time on the tournament circuit at the moment....but a couple of our Juniors had interesting events.

Mary O'Callaghan competed in the recent International Federation event in Waterford and had a great 1st round win in the main draw against a very strong Italian opponent.   Well done Mary!

Sam Carney travelled to Spain last week for a five day training camp as part of his Leinster Squad training....exciting trip Sam!

Anna Hayes played in the All Ireland Schools Hockey Finals last week in Armagh and Grace and Sarah O'Callaghan won the All Ireland Schools Badminton Finals playing for Loreto Foxrock.

The Tennis Ireland Leinster Junior Spring Leagues are progressing well with matches being played last weekend by the U10, U12, U15 & U18s – all teams did very well – keep it up!

Unfortunately, because of the court refurbishment, there will be no Easter Camp ....We'll reorganise  something when the courts are up & running again.

The courts look to be making good progress - keep fit in the meantime!

All the best             Stephen
