MLTC Club Notices 19/06/2026
MLTC NEWSLETTER 19th June 2026
What an exciting week we had to witness some fantastic tennis from Conor Gannon at Elm Park ATP Tour Challenger, he is an inspiration to us all, and we wish him the very best of luck as he progresses to the Semi Finals or the Doubles, playing this afternoon.
A funny moment to break the tension during the match:

Congratulations Conor from All The Members we are so proud of you.
LADIES’ EVENTS
Ladies’ Summer League 2026
Many thanks to all our players who showed great team spirit and determination throughout this summer league. A special thanks to our junior players, a number of whom played Senior league for the first time. Many thanks also to our Team Captains for all their hard work.
Across the board we had some amazing games and a few close contenders for playoffs. Sadly we do have a number of teams who, by the narrowest of margins, will be relegated. Unlucky, all very close and not reflective of the huge effort put in by all players.
Special thanks goes to Clodagh Murray who remarkably subbed six times over the league, contributing significantly and gaining valuable points.
As promised, we have been reviewing the results with a view to awarding a Player (s) of the League. There were a number of contenders all of whom need to be recognized for their great achievement of securing four points for their teams! These are Rosie Kennedy, Pat Cowley, Sam Haughton, Colette Langan and Siobhain Carney, Elaine O Toole and Deirdre Morrissey.
Congratulations to you all.
The overall player of the tournament is Rosie Kennedy. Well done Rosie!!
Five Mile League
Five Mile league has now concluded. Both teams had some great matches against very stiff opposition and neither team will qualify to play in the final this year, but enjoyed the competition!
Many thanks for Semin Soher for her help in organising this years 5 Mile League and to Ciara O’Brien and Sine Niland who captained the teams.
Wednesday Ladies’ Morning
Tennis as usual next Wednesday from 10am to 12. Join us for tennis coffee and cake ☕🍰 which is being hosted by Semin Soher.

HEAD COACH STEPHEN’S UPDATE
Well Conor, have you ever experienced such an exciting week in your career as you have over the last few days at the ATP Tour Challenger being played on the lush grass courts in Elm Park.
On Tuesday beating former world No 17 Australian Bernard Tomic was just sensational - to be followed in the next round to play former World No 3 and former Wimbledon semi finalist, Grigor Dimitrov, was the stuff of dreams.
Those of us lucky enough to have had tickets, witnessed a very confident display by Conor . Though going down 6/2 6/3, he produced some classy shots that had Dimitrov moving from side to side.
Dimitrov had a great chat with Conor at the net after the match which must have boosted his confidence no end.
Good doubles win late in the evening.......
But there was more to come.....
Partnered with his Davis Cup team mate Charlie Barry, he went on to have a sensational 1/6 6/3 11/9 win against the No 1 seeds.
They play their Semi - Final later today.
Imagine - just one win away from an ATP Challenger Final...WOW!
You can do it Conor 🤞
Conor, you did yourself - Dave, Karen, the lads and all here in Monkstown so proud over the last few days. Continued success as you move on to the circuit next week.
I know if you were available you'd love to turn out for us in our 1/4 final league match on Sat in Sandycove!!
Some fine results from our Juniors who are now on the summer circuit!
Last week in the Co. Wicklow Junior Tour Open 2026, Daniel Carney completed a hat trick of titles - all in the U/12 age group - Singles - Doubles & Mixed.
There was a strong Monkstown representation in both the singles & doubles finals. Daniel played Michael Carney in a cracker of a singles final & then they teamed together to win the doubles....the sportsmanship they showed was notable. Well done lads!
The KPMG Carrickmines 1000 - 200 & 100 Open is on this week with no fewer than 39 of our Juniors partaking. Very best of luck to all - brilliant to see so many wanting to sample competitive tennis. Keep the Monkstown flag f
flying!
Best of luck to the Mens' 1st - 3rd & 4th league teams in their 1/4 Final playoff matches on Saturday. Good results from our Juniors who were selected to play.
Well that's it after an amazing week to remember for Conor and the club.
All the best Stephen
Clubhouse/History/Archival/150th Information
Following feedback from members and in line with our club development programme and as part of the preparations for both the official opening of the courts on September 5th 2026 and the 150th Anniversary in 2027 we are currently working on restoring, reframing and re-hanging of historical pennants and photos which are our records of achievements in MLTC over the years.
We have almost 100 pennants and several old photos of great historical interest. We are starting with the Juniors and then moving through the Seniors which you will notice going up over the next few weeks and months in various parts of the club. They will all be placed in order of year.
Thank you for your patience and hopefully by all working together alongside the Clubhouse Development Committee of Clodagh Murray (Chair), Kevin Polley, Carol Kelly, Lorraine Ryan and the 150th Commemorative Committee of Geraldine Colgan (Chair), Judy O Shea, Jemma Houlihan, Paddy McCarthy and myself we can work together to bring the history alive over the next number of weeks and months. We have commenced work on the Clubhouse and you will be kept up-to-date with this in the weekly newsletters.
Enjoy the Sunshine.
Margaret Quinn,
Club President on behalf of the Executive Committee, the Clubhouse Development Committee and the 150th Commemorative Committee
