MLTC NEWSLETTER 17th July 2025
COURT REFURBISHMENT INFORMATION EVENING Tuesday 15th
The information evening re the Court Development Plan took place as planned on Tuesday evening at the clubhouse and was very well attended. Lots of good discussions took place which is appreciated by the Executive Committee. We thank Alex Watt the Head Coach from Malahide Tennis Club for attending and answering many questions put to him.
Further updates re this project will follow once the club has confirmed an installation date with the contractor. In the meantime the Executive Committee reminds everyone that the information re the new courts is available on the members area of the website.
Very exciting times ahead for the club as we look forward to embellishing our facilities for the future with 6 new state of the art courts.

JUNIOR HANDICAPS
Last week we held our annual junior handicaps competition for our boys and girls from the ages of 8 to 16 year old. We started on Monday 7th and finished with the finals on Friday 11th July. We had 50 competitors playing in various categories with over 200 matches played. U10, U12, U14 and U16 singles and doubles. For once the sun was shining every day and kids had loads of fun playing many round robin matches and made many friends along the way. It was great to see many of our new members taking part.
Below is the list of winners as well as photos from the final day. Well done all! Thank you also to Eabha Dubh who ably assisted Jana Langford to run the tight schedule with military precision but also with a smile and great attitude. Also some of our U14 and U16 boys and girls helped to umpire some of the younger kids matches including all the finals. It’s really enjoyable to work alongside our grow up juniors and hope it will inspire some younger ones to help in the club in the future.

UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
Conor Gannon is, quite literally, flying the flag for Ireland this week at the World University Games in Essen, Germany.
Conor, along with his team mate Ammar Elamin, were selected as
flagbearers for Wednesday night's Opening Ceremony. We wish him and the Irish team the very best of luck in Germany.
Conor flies back to Ireland next week to prepare for the Irish Open, which takes place at Carrickmines from 29th July - 3rd August.
Tickets are available on the Tennis Ireland website.
Conor defeated the number 1 seed at last year's Irish Open and it would be great to have as many Monkstown members as possible to cheer him on as he targets his home title.
On the home front Sutton is the venue this week where the East of Ireland Junior Tour 100, 200 & 1250 is taking place.
Well done to all who participated.
Rosie Kennedy has reached the semis of the U/16 singles - Robyn the semis of the U/14 singles & doubles & Richie the semis of the U/12 singles & 1/4 final of the mixed. Mary O'Callaghan was just pipped in the 1/4 final of the U/18 singles.
All semis are being played today.......very best of luck to you all.
What a Wimbledon Mens' final! A display of amazing tennis and true sportsmanship.
