UPDATE FROM STEPHEN
Wasn't last Saturday's "The Conor Gannon Experience" a super event.
Starting with the Coaching Clinic, to the amazing exhibition match of both singles & doubles to the most interesting Q & A....we were treated to something very special. The level of tennis the two Conor's, Scott & George put on was at a level to behold....I must mention the ball kids here, who got such a thrill of being on court with these guys!
The Q & A was so informative and gave an insight into tennis played at the top level. How lucky are we to have four such talented & hugely popular guys and such loyal members...thanks so much Conor - Conor - Scott - and George.
Conor, carry the pride of Monkstown LTC with you as you embark on your exciting, yet demanding, career as a tennis Pro.
On the domestic front the Senior League has just one match left in the lead up to the Play Offs. The Men’s 1st team are joint top of their section - with the Ladies 2nd & 8th teams 2nd in their sections. As always it's all to play for in the last match, which often can prove crucial as regards a play off spot or dare I say it relegation!.
The O/60's Ladies 2nd team is 2nd in their section with two matches to go. Best of luck to all teams.
The Juniors are also involved in League with our U/12's Boys & Girls qualifying for the very popular "Stars & Stripes" league Semi Final against Bray on Saturday next in Monkstown @ 6pm...do pop down and support them - they're a super little group.
In the Junior League the Girl's U/14 team are top of their section - with the U/18's 3rd...very good!
The Boy's U/18 are 2nd in their section with the U/14's struggling a bit - but with 3 more matches to go it's all to play for!
The Floodlight League and the Ladies Autumn Charity League both start next week - good luck to all teams!
All the best Stephen
A message from Johnny O’Shea, who planned and organised last Saturday’s Conor Gannon event:
Thank you to all who attended last Saturday’s coaching clinics, exhibition matches and Q&A featuring our Davis Cup heroes Conor Gannon, Scott Barron, George McGill and Conor Niland.
We are grateful to the club and the many members who contributed to the Conor Gannon Development Fund and to those who donated prizes for the raffle. We are delighted to report that more than €15,000 was raised, all of which will go towards helping Conor on his professional tennis journey. This week he is in Barcelona preparing for a series of tournaments across Europe.
The last part of the fundraising drive sees the announcement of the details of our silent auctions, which will be for two truly unforgettable tennis experiences. Both of these opportunities – open exclusively to Monkstown members – are explained in the attachments.
Finally, I attach a QR code that remains open for members who wish to make a donation to Conor’s tennis fund. The generosity of the Monkstown membership for this campaign has been exceptional and inspirational. The whole club is behind Conor in his quest to climb up the professional tennis rankings.
